A suicide bomber detonated at the gate of the historic patriarchal cathedral in Alexandria as Pope Tawadros II finished Palm Sunday liturgy. Seventeen people were killed.
Paired with the Tanta bombing the same morning, the attacks were the worst single-day assault on Egypt’s Coptic community in modern times.
