In the early hours of Tuesday, 13 October 2026, a group of criminals dismantled the electrical system around the Plaza Bolívar of La Vega in Caracas, stealing all the cabling and three electricity meters that supplied the Iglesia Santo Cristo de La Vega, its parish house, parking area and the plaza, leaving them without power. Parish administrator Father Julián Ysmael Pérez Rojas publicly denounced the insecurity in the area, saying intruders have also broken into the church, neighbors' homes and the Fundación Carlos Delfino school, and that his formal complaints to the mayor's office and security forces had gone unanswered.
