Armed men bind priest and rob Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Merced, Codegua

At about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, four hooded, armed men entered the Codegua parish house, threatened and tied up the parish priest, Fr. Héctor Durán, and stole about CLP 30 million in cash — money from the municipal cemetery, which the priest also runs. He freed himself after about three hours and called police. The PDI Rancagua robbery brigade (BIRO) is investigating. No arrests have been made. The Diocese of Rancagua says the priest is in good condition.
