Virgin Mary statue ripped from slab and thrown in woods at St. Ann's

A parishioner noticed the Virgin Mary statue in the prayer garden was missing after a Sunday evening Mass at St. Ann's Catholic Church in DeBary. The church discovered Mary's statue had been ripped off its slab and thrown in the woods; surveillance footage caught a man committing the vandalism on July 23. Deputies later arrested John Mattern, 53, of DeBary, on a felony charge of criminal mischief at a place of worship.
