Raid on Early Rain Covenant Church

Police raided one of China’s best-known unregistered congregations, detained Pastor Wang Yi and more than 100 members, and sealed the worship space. Wang was later sentenced to nine years in prison.

Early Rain became the emblem of the 2018–2019 crackdown on large urban house churches. Similar raids have continued, including a nationwide 2025 operation against Zion Church.
