A white supremacist sat through a Wednesday Bible study, then opened fire on the prayer circle. Nine people were killed, including State Senator Clementa Pinckney, the church’s pastor.
Mother Emanuel is one of the oldest Black churches in the American South. The attack was prosecuted as a federal hate crime and death-penalty case.
