Gunmen abduct worshippers from St. Joseph Catholic Church during Mass

About 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, armed men stormed St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inoyi, Affa, Udi LGA, Enugu State during Mass and abducted a seminarian, a catechist, and a parishioner. The catechist was freed the same day. Seminarian Lawrence Chidera Igbo and parishioner Emmanuel Onwudi were later rescued; on August 11 authorities said three suspects were arrested and one killed in a shootout.

Coordinates are Udi LGA (Nominatim), not the church footprint. Police later confirmed the church attack after early Facebook-sourced reports.
