On Tuesday, 22 September 2026, between about 8:00 and 11:15, unknown offenders inside Stadtpfarrkirche Grein in Upper Austria scattered confessional items, prayer books, saint devotionals, and seat cushions; tore off the cover of the holy-water basin in the right side aisle; put a broken cross and two of the pastor’s stoles into the holy water; and left a bicycle inner tube in the confessional for police forensics. Pastor Leopold Gruber called police. Material damage was described as relatively minor, and the church remains open.
