Statue of St. Anthony destroyed inside Igreja Matriz, Itapuí

On the afternoon of Tuesday, 6 October 2026, shortly before the 3 p.m. Mass, a recently restored statue of St. Anthony of Padua, about 1.3–1.5 metres tall and valued at about R$10,000, was thrown to the floor and broken inside the Igreja Matriz of Itapuí, São Paulo. A 34-year-old man was arrested in the act under the article on crimes against objects of worship and taken to the CPJ in Jaú. The pastor, Fr. Danilo Rosa de Moraes, called it a crime against religious feeling.
