Arson in the Managua cathedral chapel

An attacker threw a firebomb into the chapel of the Blood of Christ, nearly destroying a revered crucifix. No one was killed.

The arson came amid a wider confrontation between the Ortega government and the Catholic Church, which later saw Bishop Rolando Álvarez imprisoned and priests expelled.
