Machete disruption of Sunday worship at the GKPI prayer house, Mekarsari

On Sunday, 20 September 2026, four Muslim men disrupted Sunday worship at the GKPI (Gereja Kristen Protestan Indonesia) prayer house in Mekarsari village, Rajeg District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, Indonesia. One of them, Aji Cahyono Putra, 29, brandished a machete at the entrance and threatened bloodshed unless the church closed. About 40 congregants left. After mediation the Tangerang Regent ordered the prayer house closed. Criminal complaints were filed with Tangerang police on 21–22 September.
