On Sunday, September 6, 2026, a mob of about 125 people entered a Presbyterian house church in Rangilabasan village, East Medinipur (Purba Medinipur) district, West Bengal, after morning service. Witness Chhabi Das said attackers damaged the temporary church premises and broke a cross into four pieces, and assaulted Tapan Samanta, the Christian in whose home the service was held. Local women who intervened were taken to a police station and later released. Local police had been notified in writing before Sunday worship, according to Das. Reported via UCA News; Christian leaders including the Bengal Christian Council and the Archdiocese of Calcutta condemned the attack.

Coordinates are the Nominatim administrative pin for Purba Medinipur district — Rangilabasan village did not resolve. A same-day pastor abduction in Nandapurya, West Medinipur, is not a separate filing (no parish name).
