Polychrome angel carving stolen from Vera Cruz church

In the same September 2026 reporting wave as the San Pablo thefts, the nearby Iglesia Penitencial de la Vera Cruz (Church of the True Cross) in Valladolid lost a polychrome wooden carving of an angel carrying a torch, about two feet tall. Authorities were investigating whether the same perpetrator was responsible for the San Pablo and Vera Cruz thefts, which USA Art News (citing El País) said occurred only days apart. The Archbishopric of Valladolid ordered heightened precautions across the archdiocese after the thefts.
